Chapter 18
Even though she hadnât drunk that much the previous night, Sunny woke up with a slight headache. However, it couldnât suppress the powerful feeling that surged through her being. She had handled herself like a true boss bitch. Sheâd laid down ground rules for her crew, checked them when they got out of line, and came to their defense when they needed her the most. That was the definition of a boss bitch.
Rubbing her temples, Sunny got out of bed and made her way to the bathroom. That was one of the great things about being the daughter of a drug lord. You didnât live in a shack, so you had your own bathroom and didnât have to share it with anybody. When Sunny came out of the bathroom, her nose was assaulted by the smell of bacon, pancakes, and eggs. She hadnât noticed it when she went in, but her growling stomach made sure that she did now.
After getting herself together, Sunny was about to go downstairs to see about her growling stomach when her cell phone buzzed. Hungry and irritated, she walked over to her nightstand and aggressively snatched it up.
âYeah?â she said without looking at the caller ID.
âUh . . . Sunny?â a voice said over the line.
âYeah, this is Sunny. Who the fuck is this?â
âThis is Dani.â
Sunny held the phone back from her mouth and looked at it strangely. Although she figured that she knew the answer to the question she was about to ask, she decided to ask it anyway.
âBitch, how the fuck did you get my number?â
âOh . . . ah . . . Jazmine gave it to me.â
âOh, she did, huh?â Sunny asked, figuring as much.
âYeah, I mean, I asked for it.â
Sunny held the phone for a few seconds, waiting for Dani to reveal why she called. The fuck wrong with this dizzy bitch? Sunny wondered when Dani hesitated to speak.
âDani, what the hell do you want? Why did you call me?â
âOh, my bad. I just wanted to thank you for letting me kick it with yâall last night. I had a fuckinâ blast.â
âYeah, donât worry about it. Look, I have to go,â Sunny said, dismissing her.
Before Dani could even say goodbye, Sunny hung up on her. The growling coming from her stomach was getting louder. Sunny didnât know why she was so hungry. Sheâd eaten more than her share of wings the night before, but for some reason, she woke up famished.
She quickly made her way downstairs and into the kitchen. She was all set to thank her father for making breakfast . . . until she saw him sitting at the table stuffing a forkful of eggs into his mouth. When Sunny looked over toward the stove and saw Joy stirring a pot of grits, she frowned. It wasnât that Sunny didnât like Joy. She just didnât trust her. For the life of her, Sunny couldnât understand how her drug-dealing father was messing around with a cop. In her mind, no cop could be trusted.
